What is the My HealtheVet Pilot?
This pilot is being tested at the Albany, Bath, Bay Pines, Buffalo, Canandaigua, Portland, Syracuse, Tampa, and Washington DC VA Medical Centers.
The My HealtheVet Pilot is a demonstration prototype developed to demonstrate that VA could provide veterans with a safe, secure, and private electronic copy of their own VA health information through an Internet web environment.
This health information is stored in a secure and private environment called an eVAult where all the data is encrypted.
A My HealtheVet Pilot registrant can:
- Obtain electronic copies of key portions of their electronic health records
- Have confidence that their health information is stored in a secure and private web environment called an eVAult where all the data is encrypted
- Add structured medical information in the "self-entered" section of their eVAult
- Track personal health metrics, such as blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, heart rate, and cholesterol
- Access a Health Education Library and health assessment tools
- Grant access to all or some of their health information to others, such as family or veteran advocates, and VA and non-VA healthcare providers
The pilot has passed multiple security risk assessments and penetration studies and is highly successful. The pilot functionality fulfills the vision of the My HealtheVet Steering Committee for a VA service that will empower veterans with information and tools so that they can improve their health to the maximum extent possible.
A national release of My HealtheVet is underway. The goal is to incorporate the full pilot functionality into the national product, as well as electronic services such as refilling prescriptions and viewing appointments.
